Delicious and Easy Homemade Pani Puri Recipe

Pani Puri is a popular street food in India that is loved by people of all ages. It is a tasty and spicy snack that combines crispy puris (deep-fried bread) with tangy and flavorful water. Pani Puri is also known as Golgappa or Puchka in different regions of India. In this article, I will share with you an easy and delicious homemade Pani Puri recipe.

To make the Pani Puri, you will need the following ingredients:

For the Pani Puri filling, you will need:

  • 4 medium-sized boiled potatoes
  • 1 cup boiled kala chana (brown chickpeas)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp black salt
  • 1.5 tsp muri masala
  • 1 chopped green chili

For the Pani Puri water, you will need:

  • 2 strands of mint leaves (chopped)
  • 3 strands of coriander leaves (chopped)
  • Paste of 3 green chilies
  • Half-chopped green chili
  • 1 cup tamarind water
  • 1 tsp chaat masala powder
  • 1/2 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder (jeera)
  • Salt to season
  • 2 cups of water

  1. Start by mashing the boiled potatoes using a fork or your hand. You can also use a potato masher for this step. Mash them until they become smooth and lump-free.
  2. Once the potatoes are mashed, add the boiled kala chana (brown chickpeas) to the mixture.
  3. Add the red chili powder, black salt, muri masala, and chopped green chili to the mixture. These spices will give a spicy and flavorful taste to the filling of the Pani Puri.
  4. Mix all the ingredients well until they are evenly combined. Make sure that all the potatoes and chickpeas are coated with the spices.
  5. Set the potato and chickpea mixture aside and let’s move on to making the Pani Puri water.
  6. In a separate bowl, take the chopped mint leaves, chopped coriander leaves, paste of green chilies, and half-chopped green chili.
  7. Add the tamarind water to the mixture. Tamarind water adds a tangy and sour taste to the Pani Puri water.
  8. Add the chaat masala powder, black salt, cumin powder, and salt to season. These spices will enhance the flavors of the water.
  9. Pour 2 cups of water into the bowl and mix everything well. Adjust the salt and seasonings as per your taste. You can also add sweet chutney made with dates and tamarind for a sweeter flavor.
  10. Once the Pani Puri water is prepared, refrigerate it until you are ready to serve. Chilling the water will enhance its flavors and make it more refreshing.
  11. Now, it’s time to assemble the Pani Puri. Take the puris (deep-fried bread) and gently make a small hole in the center of each puri using your thumb.
  12. Fill each puri with a small spoonful of the potato and chickpea mixture. You can also add chopped onions, sev, or boondi for added flavor and crunch.
  13. Finally, fill the puris with the prepared Pani Puri water. You can dip the puris into the water or pour the water into each puri using a spoon.
  14. Serve the Pani Puri immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite.
